hi just put my 1990 dj 2100 caravelle on the road and took it for a long run 154miles and it only averaged 14/15 mpg , it has just been mot,d
so it must have passed emisions test so cant understand the low mpg
have ckecked the air flow meter and omhs readings seem ok,can anybody
suggest likely problem area and what to ckeck next.

I'd do a compression test as a first easy check in case you are pushing the fuel in to get the right acceleration response - maybe the injection system needs a check too - I bought a DIGIFANT manual from a great seller on The Samba .... see here

well worth the money!
Also check the lines for leaks - remember there is a return fuel line. Is there any smell of petrol after parking it up for a while?
Hope this helps. (You could wait for Steve to give it a look over too!)

MPG?
Don't know what terrain/roads you were covering there B?, but apparently
if you hover around the 56mph - optium speed in highest gear - that is the best conditions for getting the max out of your MPG
.
If you do 70 mph though, then your fuel goes up by around 33% on this
Anything above that of course - apart form getting some unwelcome points on you licence maybe! - and it gets even worst obviously, although can't remember what exact figures where?
So 56 is the magic number by all accounts. Enjoy the scenery, extra fuel savings and let everyone else do the rushing around whilst you enjoy your van!
Cheers.

My 2.1 Autobox is a 7 seater Caravelle, no camping interior or nasty plastic top.
I try not to watch how fast the fuel guage falls.
Around town, with just myself on board, and driving fairly hard I get about 15 - 18 mpg.
On long runs I can manage 22 - 27 , If I keep the right foot light (60mph ish).

Re: poor mpg
Yes I am seriously thinking about gas although I am a bit worried the damned government/Suppliers will do the Diesel on it. I did about 22MPG in my 2.1 Digijet hightop last year on a trip across France and up in the mountains much of it towing a boat. My 2.3 Bedford CF did about the same but howled away like a banshee in top due to undergearing. The T25 knocks spots off it in terms of a quiet drive and pulling power even in 5th gear.boilerman63 wrote:thanks for all ur replies its, a 1990 2.1 dj auto caravelle spoke to steve at

Mine is exactly the same 2.1 fuel injection caravelle - i thought there was something seriously wrong, but now ive read others mpg, im starting to think im wrong?
Ive just done a round trip of around 500 miles and i put in about £140 petrol.
I can get about 80miles (if im lucky) on £20 - around town.
