1.6TD Glow Plugs

There is a special tool for doing glowplugs, old school ratchet spanner with cranked ends, 8mm on one end, 12mm on the other.
a search of e-bay for "glow plug spanner" gave loads of results.

Yep - thats the one i've got - and i dont get on with it at all....

I have a BluePoint one (Snap On) and it's okay, it works.
I now have some "gearwrench" adjustable, but locking head ratchet spanners and they are much better, finer ratchet.

That explains it then.

The cheapy ones dont even click unless you turn them a lot - and there isnt enough room for that when doing the glow plugs.

I've used snap on tools before - there ratchets are amazing. If it was my profession - then i could justify spending that sort of cash.

I've often toyed with the idea of saving up for something like this:

I have one of these for breakdowns/travelling with, the lower of the 2.

It's the same people who make Halfords stuff.

I've then got a small ammo box with a few screwdrivers/molegrips/hammer/snips/wire/terminals in.

That's all I really need.

I managed to do it without removing or disturbing anything else. I've got the Halfords ratchets which worked nicely for me.

Anyway, went to check the 50 amp fuse this morning and that was were the fault was. Changed it over and everything is happy in my Westy world once again!

It does beg the question as to what caused the fuse to blow in the first place, but I'm sort of hoping it was a duff glow plug, otherwise I shall just put it to the back of my mind and rely on sheer ignorance until something else happens!

I had the same problem the metal strip fuse went one day, I don't know why.
I replaced it and it's been okay since.

Keep a spare in the van just in case your in Cromer and one damp morning it goes again...
