Today my engine has developed a really annoying problem, which is the engine revs stick and dont return to idle straight away after releasing the accelerator pedal, as though somethings sticking??????????. I.e drive on a constant throttle at 30 mph then release pedal it should then slow donw but the revs stay where they were for about 5 secs beofre dropping down to arounf 1200rpm!!!!!!!!!!, which is too fast anyway. The accelerator pedal doesnt stick the cable appears free and operates ok. Has anyone any ideas what it is. is it cold start stuck on???????, or is pump worn. Or is it fuel as it does need the fuel filter replacing which i`ll do tomorrow as soon as i can get one!

First make sure nothing is causing the throttle cable or linkage to hang up. Go to the injection pump, remove the cable from the arm on the pump, rev it up and see if the revs still stay high. If not your cable or part of the throttle system may be worn or stuck. If it still revs too high without the cable attached then the problem is at the pump. Using some Standyne or other brand diesel fuel conditioner may help. But probably the brass bushing just below the pump arm is shot. If so you can do the job your self. The whole pump may not have to be rebuilt.
