1.6td diesel pump, wont draw diesel

Post by 1990panelvan »

almost finished my passat 1.6td into t25. now went to bleed the diesel pump (jx pump) and cant get the pump to draw any diesel up. now is this a common problem with the pump? what would break on the pump to make it not suck. and can it be repaired? any ideas?

I found with my last van that getting the pump to pump was a complete pig..

I ended up taking off the fuel in union and then syringing diesel into the pump until full. After that is was a FULLY charged battery and a fair bit of engine cranking and presto - the only other thing I did was to crack off the fuel line on one of the injectors as it was 'bouncing' due to an airlock that wouldn't go - in the end it turned out that that injector was a crappy one so I replaced it
It is by will alone that I set my 'van' in motion!

Take off the return fuel line at the pump - this makes priming the system a lot easier. However, when the engine does fire up - be sure to be there so you can reconnect it as diesel will go everywhere....

PS. Out of interest, why didnt you leave the 1.6td pump on?

Fill the pump like Dug says, also make sure the filter is full and try to get the pipe from the filter to th pump full as well. I had the same probs. Took me a hour to get it to draw the fuel up.
Keep it real.

It will do - but a simple mod can solve that. You can buy the bits to do the mod from brickworks....

I would have thought the passat one was better - but i dont know.

Any thoughts Westy?
