I had the misfortune of losing some coolant recently through a jubilee clip slackening. I followed the wiki instructions on bleeding to remove the air after refilling the system.
Got the van got to normal temperature and I revved to 2000rpm and bled the rad but whenever I released the gas back to idle the expansion tank began to overflow. Is this normal or have I still got some air in the system?
Additionally is it usually when bleeding parked on a hill the steeper the better?
And a kind previous owner has mangled up the engine bleed valve screw slot meaning I can't open it. Does this matter? And if so where can I get an early bleed valve from as I think VW have discontinued them (1983 1.9DG). It's a little plastic valve on the end of a mouled pipe coming from the main pipe (not very technical I know)
Yet another coolant bleeding question

when i have done it i have usually kept the revs up when i replaced the cap, if the engine bay screw is stuck i think you will have to run it till the thermostat opens. this should do it.....i think??!!
the front wants to be about 30cm up if i remember correctly, keep checking till the rad is warm at the top and make sure the heater controls are on hot
i usually use this as an opportunity to check the fan kick in too
