Air Cooled 1600 - Air Flaps - Setting/adjustment.

Post by totallyconfused »

Hi - I have just noticed that my airflap cable has snapped. I have fixed it but a little unsure as to how to set it up.

When are the flaps open and closed? I believe I have to fix the cable to the flap arm with the flaps shut. Are the flaps closed when the arm is pushed as far back to the rear of the vehicle as possible? Does this mean that as the engine gets hot it pulls the arm down and backwads and the flaps more open?

This is how I have done it but just wanted to check?

Cheers - Christian.

When the cable is pulling the lever down, it is holding it closed. The thermostat opens and the lever moves upward to a vertical position.
