Q's for petrol heads

Post by KarlT »

Hi all

Put a new ( to me) dizzy on & while setting the timing noticed that Haynes recomends retarding the timing a little if running 95* unleaded.

Was wondering if this is a good idea?

Do you get worse mpg so you might as well pay for the extra 98* unleaded?

Also pre-owner put regular plugs in (one electrode) is this not good for mpg aswell?

(still a non member :( )

Some peeps claim that DJ is better on 98, but I happily retard to 5 degrees and run 95, on a genuine replacement engine - which comes with a new pulley with that timing mark and instructions in german to retime for unleaded which also says 95 is ok. Getting upto 24 mpg on a syncro with power steer and aircon. Oh and factory fitted triple points.
