wondering can anyone help me
if me van is left for a few days when i start it up.
the engine shakes baddly spluttering and farting with a knocking sound,
the rev counter jumps between 600 down to 2/300 rpm ,
if i give it throttle it dies altogether.
then after a couple of mins its fine purring like a cat.
going to france in a couple of weeks and a bit worried

had a similar problem make sure cooling system is bled of air and ensure oil breather is not kinked and blocked . worked for me. rob

It's probably just the hydraulic tappets re-filling. Make sure you have good oil and a proper filter fitted before you go to France. Man, Knecht, etc filter 070115561
Make sure the wires going to the bolt on the left hand head are all clean and earthing properly too

have used proper mann filter ,would not fit anything else........and castrol high mileage 15w 40 oil only a couple of months ago.
i have been using castrol valve master lead replacment cas i havent got a chance to get someone to change the timing yet.
could this have something to do with it ?
ill have a look at the connections on the wires.

I prefer a 20/50 oil... is it a loud Tapping.. that stops after a short drive?
The fuel to use is super unleaded for a 2.1
normal unleaded is the wrong octane rating ... unless you re-time it as you say to 5deg BTDC
