Head Gasket? maybe?

Post by joe75 »

Hi all and thanks in advance.

We have been using the Syncro loads lately for camping and have noticed that it started using water. After 4hrs plus driving the tank was at min. I checked most of the pipes (theres a lot!) but no luck on a leak.

Yesterday I changed the glow plugs which now means it starts like a dream. Whilst working on the engine I notice some water staining just past the injector pump. I started the engine and let it run at at 2000rpm for a few minutes and noticed a dribble of water coming out from where the water stain is.

So my big question now is do i have a blown head gasket? If so is it a really hard job (did one years ago!) Any advice would be a great help.

Thanks,

Joe

The plastic manifold on the head is weak point, could it be leaking from there ? My golf has always had a bit of a weep there even after I replaced the manifold and O-ring.

if its a weak spot will it do any damage to the engine if we continue to use the van? Is changing the head gasket the only way to solve the problem?
