1.7N/A Diesel Q's

Post by Dan T »

Can't find much about these...(KY engine)

I sold on my 1.9DJ and had an MV2.1 for a while. I currently have a 2.4D T4 Syncro but fancy a T25 again.....

Was the 1.7D usually 4 or 5 speed?

On paper they were marginally better than the N/A 1.6D. how does it compare to the stock 1.6TD

I had a lead on a good low mileage panel van, if it hasnt gone I'd be paying for the condition of the van so would'nt be able to stretch to swapping the motor too.

I rate the fuel consumption of a diesel but enjoy the T25 more than the T4.

Thanks,

D

Hello,

I took a 1.7D for a test drive, it was 4 speed.

It was really slow. I am glad I waited and found a 1.6 turbo diesel with 5 gears. My TD cruises at 65-70mph on the motorway easily, the guy who owns the 1.7D says he normally cruises at 55-60.

I guess if it is in good condition you could live with it for a while, then swap the engine maybe?

I believe that the KY engine was the last attempt to improve the performance. Th CS was 49BHP for a 2.4t van
but the Ky wasn't many more.
the TD is only 70BHP and that is only 'passable' in these days. I would think 100BHP is more the aim nowadays.
but for the nostalgia of creeping along I suppose a n/A diesel would take some beating
