Fixed Clock, Non working temp warning light -

Post by Stefvan »

I have had endless problems with intermittent temp warning lights and a non-working digital clock. I finally got hold of a known working clock and when that didn't work I was ready to throw in the towel. Then I noticed that the socket on the back of the dash pod comes off. You can then have a really good look at the copper tracks where the big plug goes. It seems that some brake fluid had been spilt down the back of the clocks... this dribbled down and settled in the top of the socket and corroded the tracks, shorting one and disintegrating the other. Taking off the socket also reveals the index of the tracks.. the corroded one was "Temp" and the disintegrated track was "Uhr" - Time !
I armed myself with a bottle of Granvilles Electro Connector from Halfords (which is a conductive paint used to repair heated rear windscreens). I got a scalpel and very carefully cut the top layer of plastic off the good section of track to give a good connection and gave a couple of coats to the corroded tracks.
Now my clock works and the temperature warning light flashes to self-test as soon as the ignition switch is turned. :D

I have had the dash pod off, and back on about 20 times in the last two weeks and I can now detach it in about 30 seconds flat !

Ive had a similar problem and its fantastic how resourseful youve been .....it is possible, even for numpties like me, to get your hands dirty and get stuck in. Its a confidence thing and loads of people on these forums give you this. Its just when it gets abit tricky with mechanical stuff for me.

Go man ! :D
Get off my tail man cant you see Im in a wedge !

Useful tip and procedure, a lot of people get problems with the ribbon connector. Will remember that one!
