Starts but won't tick over!!!

Help.... my 1985 T25 is broken!! :( Starts ok but won't tick over. have checked plugs - look ok, could it be the carb? Or maybe fule filter? Filled it up the other day and petrol leaked from the tank. :cry:

make sure all the electrical connectors are ok

could be muck in the float bowl

blocked filter

fuel pump
AGG 2.0L 8V. (Golf GTi MkIII)

was it running ok before you filled up ?

Yes was running very well before I filled it up and for 2 days after.

Does it have a Solex carburettor? (34 PICT) and if so don't they have a bypass cut-out valve that should click when ignition is switched on and off?
Sorry to be a bit vague but mine is fuel injected. My bay window with a 34PICT had the same symptoms years ago and it was the 'Idle cut out' valve, similar beastie with a different name perhaps?
It is shown just forward of the pivot point for the throttle butterfly lever in Haynes. Electrical connection is hooked up to 15 on the ignition coil I think.

do they not have idle jets then? on other cars in the past that have done it it was them being blocked might have sucked crap from the tank and blocked them

Sounds like there might be some rubbish in the carb maybe dislodged from the tank when you filled it up. I've have the carb checked and cleaned on mine, and the choke re-adjusted the other day and it's running much better now.

Locked
