No fuel while cranking

Post by Tomaz »

My Syncro won't start after I washed the engine. I midge get some watter also on electronic, but shouldn't be too much...

What can be wrong? Ignition is ok (sparks on spark plugs), engine cranks ok, but won't fire.. Sparks are dry also after several cranks! Does that mean fuel is not coming in?

It is WBX 2.1 DJ engine and I checked electronics for fault. When I turn ignition on I can hear the fuel pump start operating, ignition control unit is replaced by spare one, idle stabilizer bypassed, both 53 relays replaced... The only thing may still be faulty is main CPU I guess? Or can it be the airflow meter also? Should I go and buy a new CPU or try out something else first? I don7t thing it would be injectors as there are 4 and all for sure didn't die at once.

any idea?

thanks

Are you sure that the fuel pump is working. Take off the smaller pipe, and put a length of spare pipe onto the pump, put the end into a large container, then switch on ignition. The fuel pump should pump at least 500ml a minute.

If the pump is working, try the fuel pressure regulator, next to the distributor. If it is broken, all the fuel will be returned to the tank, and no pressure to run the injectors.

Oh, and check the fuel filter is not blocked.

Can you fill out your profile please.

I went through all that but in my case it was stopping after a random time. I found it dead easy to check the fuel pressure as I found a pressure guage in my junk store and connected it to the point conveniently supplied in the fuel piping up on top. In spite of protestations you might be subject to regarding "special" petrol proof guages almost any guage which reads over 2 1/2 bar (say 40 lbs/sqin) will do for this short test. I would recommend pulling all connectors one by one and blowing them out with air line if you have one. Then replace using water displacing spray. I use WD40 although not recomended. Make sure you haven't broken a wire or dislodged a connector. While troubleshooting my Digijet 2.1 I was surprised how many of the connectors could stop it if pulled out!
