1.6TD - temp gauge not working

Post by pimpdriver »

Hello,

on my 1.6 TD - JX, the temperature gauge has stopped working. Last week it worked fine, it sat at just left of centre when warmed up.

Now after driving 15 miles, it is still fully to the left.

The only thing I have done is to attempt to change the fan belt and water pump belts last week, could I have disturbed a wire in my ham "interfered with" attempts?

The heater is working fine, and the waterpump is going round.

Cheers,

Steve

It likely that a connection has been broken, the leads are getting a bit stiff and manky by now. have you been poking around near the head?, no connection at the water pump/belts/
could be bad earth, more likely as this happens when disturbed, check all earth points for tightness. I presume you have not been fishing at the back of the dash? in case could have knocked lead.
You say it sits to the left of middle?, most are on the middle or to the right nowadays. :?
Believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see.

Check the connections on the housing on the top face of the head as you look at it, then those at the very front of the engine bay as there are two on there, too. Failing that, bring it round and I'll poke it with a stick.
