Will this engine fit?

Post by airhead »

I can get a 1.9d engine for my 84 1.6d T25 for €400. Its out of a 94 T4 transporter. Is it just a case of changing the sump and mounts or is there more to it? Whats the engine code for this engine? There's only 70,000 miles on this engine and by all accounts its running as sweet as a nut, so it could be just the job. Is this the way forward? What Im doing is taking the entire T4, removing the engine myself and putting it into the T25, then returning the body of the T4 to the scrappy.

Looking at VagCat (im bored) shows the engine as a 1X.

No idea what this is....

If i were you i would go for a 1Y - dirt cheap (i can sell you one but as your in Dublin it aint worth it) and there is loads of info on here.

I've done the change twice - and its easy....

However, that sounds very cheap - and if you can find out what it is, then you might be in with a chance of using it....

As Ringo said it is a 1X and having owned a T4 i can confirm .This engine can be used by swopping over the sump oil pump airbox inlet exhuast manifolds from the 1.6n to it.Dont forget the spigot bearing for the 1X crankshaft .You might find a low mileage 1Y engine as a alternative dirt cheap rather than £400.
