Covkid - thanks for advice on colour....I'm going for orange over the blue...let you know how I get on.

Also - you say soapy water to flat back with. Got some 1000grade wet and dry in pundland in a mixed selection of wet and dry - but do you use washing up liquid to make it soapy??

Spent most of saturday de-rusting and covering with kurust and fine film of filler. Nearly done the one side. Got rained off Sunday till the evening...then got another hour or so in!

Can't wait to get going now. Typical...week of rain forecast!

grrrr.

Yup, washing up liquid - just a cheap brand tho.

1000 grade rather fine for prep. 400-600 would be a better idea or your arms will wear out. Some found that the green scourer on those £1 shop sponge packs was great for getting an initial key for the paint - just an idea. for large areas of filler, use a flat sander. These days you can buy them for aroun £15 or less.

Orange over blue will need at least three coats to really obliterate blue but see how you get on.

Don't forget - wear latex gloves throughout!!!!!

Cov,
Just a quick congrats on the wiki stuff on this - I have been dropping by on the thread for a year now and just revisited the wiki - excellent job there man. That could even inspire me to get out there when the need arises.

Pics are just the job as we all need some real examples to get over the initial scepticism.

Keep up the good work mate!

Tips for masking:
go slowly,
use warm tape (good quality helps),
clean area to be masked first (especially rubbers),
pull off a strip of tape about a foot long and try with that first (the profis can do it in one but they've practiced),
don't be afraid to rip it off and start again,
finally - practice makes perfect.

Bunch up the tape when going around corners as well, and if needs be, use some smaller pieces of tape to fill in gaps. I find a bit of PVC tape can make life easier too. And as Tight as a ducks ass (Sorry mate!) said, make sure you use good quality tape. Youll have nothing but hassle from poor quality tape.

Put a length of electrical cable under the bubber seal all the way around the window. Not easy to do but this lifts the edge of the seal up 2-3mm enough to paint just under the seal. When the paints dry push the wire a bit further under the seal to detach it from the dry paint then pull it out.

Will they post to Ireland?? Can you pay in pounds??

My bus is escorial green,(is yours?), which is very similar to RAL 6001 (shade lighter, and with spray can option) or 6002 (closest match, but not available for £3.99 spray cans.)

The lighter shade is only noticeable on close inspection.

Try Lawsons at Southampton and tell em they were recommended via the instructions posted on 80/90 - might make no odds but worth a try. They deliver anywhere as far as I know. Ireland shouldn't be a prob.

Masking tape. DO NOT use cheapo tape - it is not great. I found B&Q tape was great but pound shop tape doesn't stick round corners well. That may help. Incidently, I had the chrome insert around window rubbers and toyed with the idea of replacing it all but found I could mask and spray silver FAR easier. Did the same with rear vents.

As for side effects of spraying - agree completely. Done a lot of spraying and airbrushing and it is NOT good for you. This paint has very little impact from an environmental viewpoint and anyone can do it. As I mentioned in WIKI, the neighbours had no idea I was even painting and its SO easy to touch up if you get any scrapes.

No painting this year although some areas may need looking at again. Concentrating on changing as many running lights over to LEDs as far as possible now. Biggest challenge is the rear light clusters. Now seriously considering dumping the actuall bulb holder assembly and making a large PCB with LED arrays to replace the lot. Have already replaced number plate light bulb holders for 4 LEDs per unit - far better light and little chance of a flat battery if I ever leave lights on.

Great pic! 8)

It was my understanding that there was some sort of regulation about sending paint by post. I'll check it out though. Thanks. Ive to sort out the sills and wheel arches first. There's a bit of welding needed. Very little, but it does need to be done before I paint as well as a few dents removed.
