Newbie......looking for answers

Post by aardvark »

Well gone and done it bought one, water cooled 1900 fourspeed petrol, white with all the usual stuff, suppose I will have to make special sleeping arrangements with my bank branch manager to fund all of the nice things I would like to do to the van. Bodywork is actually quite clean with just a spot of bother on the bottom corner of the sliding door. Apart from that very little seam rust, 80 thousand on the clock and genuine, a wad of history from the elderly couple I purchased from, full mot, new exhaust, rock solid underneath, 5 months tax, new brakes etc etc and half a tank of petrol....now thats got to be worth something in the future. All in all I am pleased as punch and now grinning like the proverbial cheshire.......I have to say when driving it does bring a huge smile to my face...not the fastest thing in the world and a bit noisier than the bora tdi I normally drive but I figure the van is a bit like me....built for comfort not speed.

Anyway enough of my rambling...........although the bodywork and mechanics all seem to be in good order the old couple god bless em didnt appear to spend to much time cleaning the van........the floor carpet is awful and I want to remove this and stick in some alternative, my problem is the buddy seat.....cant find anything on removal....can anyone help here.

Been lurking around the site for a good while now......very informative and I have to say some lovely vans, think i am losing my sight as i have read just about all of it.
Final question for now...the rustoleum thread, excellent, I remember my father doing a similar thing to an old van he had with tekaloid if I remember rightly......Has anyone in central scotland used this roller method and had good results

Hopefully someone can give me couple of answers and sorry for the length of the post but kids and their new toys...what can I say

All in all I am pleased as punch and now grinning like the proverbial cheshire.......I have to say when driving it does bring a huge smile to my face...

I've owned mine for two years, it's my daily drive and I still feel the same.

Hi mate, I just installed a buddy seat - wooden base with swivel chair on top...

The seat sits of a frame that bolts through the floor. If its the same as mine, you will have a "hole" in one of the side panels of the base bit. have a ganders in there...you should see 4 bolts. Undo them, and the unit will lift off laving the frame on the floor. You can then undo the frame

Hope this helps. Welcome to the club - by the way, the smile don't go until sommat falls off!!

Thanks for the welcome Flowerpower and Ermie571.
I will have a look and mess about with the seat tomorrow, as for things falling of at least theres plenty space in the back to put it all.
Thanks again

Thank you lots and a couple more questions

Post by aardvark »

Well the buddy seat is out....bolted all the way through to undercarriage with a couple of steel brace plates acting as strengtheners/spacers. All but one of the bolts undone with out difficuly, the last one I had to take the angle grinder to as it was rounded off and I couldnt get any purchase at all. Looked like it was there from new as the white paint looked untouched underneath...will have to get the waxoyl out and seal it all.........any ideas how to block the holes prior to this.......couple of nice new bolts is my thinking then underseal for protection...any advance. Carpet out ( god it was awful) wood underfloor....should this be sealed prior to overlay???? Quick question about seats and doors and I am not sure if this is in the right place or not...still trying to suss the site etiquette so apologies in advance. Can a universal subframe be fitted to a. n. other car seat and then the van???? The lower part of the sliding door needs a bit of attention...corner a bit rusty and cak looking......can this be repaired as in a part panel and if so what would it cost for a decent pro job??

Big Thanks to Ermie for the advice and Mocki for the interest and welcome :)
