Swivel seat base fitment

Post by bellacops »

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been covered before but would really like to fit a swivel base for the passenger seat on my '85 RHD. It is a UK conversion (LeisureDrive) and I have the opportunity to buy a Westfalia base but have been told that it screws in using 4 bolts. I have lifted the passenger seat out this evening and cannot see any bolt holes available :? . Does this mean that I would have to drill holes in the floor? Also, the distance between the runners that the seat slides into and the flat surface below it is a few inches...any ideas? Weld it?

Get it in the right spot and weld it, you will have to split it by undoing the 4 nuts in the centre of the swivel, this also applies when tending to the leisure battery if you have one fitted.

You would expect them to slide on the runners but they don't, so they end up in between the the origonal set .

May be a good idea to disconnect the battery when welding, if you didn't all ready know.

i have a original westy swivel in my leisuredrive( not that that makes any difference, t25 seat runner are all the same) and i got a pair of seat runner off a old seat and welded them to the swivel, so i can remove it anytime in like, plus it give it twice as much adjustmentness....... didnt fancy welding it to the van, incase i wanted to go back to non swivelness

Thanks chaps,

Is it correct that the existing runners are removed and the new base screwed into place? Trouble is, I can't see how the existing runners are detatched. I am the third owner of the van and am pretty sure no modifications were done to it but is it possible that the runners were welded into place at the factory or during the conversion as I can't find any screws/bolts that attach it. :?:
