Water Tank sensor

I opened my water tank to clean ready for refilling (the tank has been empty for some time) but noticed an oily liquid in the bottom of the tank.

Could this have leaked from the water level sensor that screws into the lid or do I need to be investigating other areas? Any advice much appreciated.
