Water pump / belts

Post by fried chicken »

Ok, so just did a 300mile round trip at the weekend & 1 mile from home, red flashing lights & temp gauge off the scale, nursed the van home & the water pump has gone. Picked up a new one from GSF.
My question is, when taking the drive belt off it was very tight, the adjuster only moved down maybe 3-4mm, would this have contributed to my water pump going?? because it was putting to much sideways pressure on the pump??
Thanks

FC, by the sound of things it may well have been the belt tension that has finished off your pump bearings. If you give us some indication of what engine you are running we may be able to advise you of the correct one for the job.
