Leisure \battery

Post by Ernest »

I am looking to replace my second battery but it seems to be difficult/impossible to find a leisure battery small enough to fit the box under the swivel passenger seat of my Holdsworth Villa 3 conversion. It seems to be the height that's the problem - I measure that my box will take a battery of max 180mm dept.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks for responses so far
Hecules
I can't get one to fit as max dept of the compartment is 180mm and so far all leisure batts I have looked at have been above this.
What is the brand of your batts?

People use standard lead/acid batteries, not specific leisure batts. that`s why you can`t find anything suitable. These campers are really designed so that they have either a 240V hook-up on site or a run every couple of days, or every day even, rather than being parked up for a week at a time running off the LB, so a normal starter battery is OK as it`s not deeply discharged. That`s why you don`t need a specific LEISURE type battery.
Keep it real.

Kevtherev

So far I only run the standard striplight over cooker as the batt light goes from green to red as son as i put anything on.

I would also like to run the fridge (whilst running), water pump, and the vanity lights over the bed.
Guess I will have to buy a standred car batt.

Thanks all

I would check the charge from the alternator before you buy a new one...
put the tester across the terminals of the leisure on Volts... With the engine running, it should read over 13.5v

what you describe to run, will not be a bother to a standard battery.
I run a 600 watt inverter, lights DVD, TV, phone chargers, propex. water pump

remember if you do have to buy a standard battery it will be a godsend if the starter gives up and a damn sight cheaper
another point I should make is that the alternator will charge the Standard battery FULLY whereas it would not do the same to the leisure

Dude if you want your metal lid to close on your battery compartment then you will need a 075 code battery.
These were fitted to 1990s petrol transits.
I too would like a smaller lesure battery, mines too tall to shut the lid also. :? Cheers.

If you look in the Wiki (top of page, button) there`s a comprehensive list on there of what batteries will fit without probs, it`s not hard to find the correct one!! I`ve got 2 LBs so it`s quite easy to find `em.

Also some camper wiring stuff, split charge etc. See also:
