Simple Green works for me. Best in cool of morning in shaded area. Spray it on and let it set for awhile, then wash with good sponge or cloth and rinse off. Also good on underbody and tyres so mud will come off later... spray it on clean surface and let it dry. Makes a film that mud doesn't stick to as well.

I soak kitchen roll in fairlywicked and water (strong mix) and then lay the paper on the bugs.
The paper towel stays moist and therefore the bugs get moist (can I say in front of the kids?).
After 15 mins just wipe away.
Incedentially the same technique is good with paint stripper (not for bugs for "feck" sake!).

- go to the nearest Hardly Dangerous bike shop, you can buy packets of stick on bugs.bugs stuck to the back door
That's the only way that tractor riders get them on their bikes.
I've just reread GTI Mad Man's post. It like a foreign language.
What chuff is collinite, it sounds like something from womens legs.
