Black gunk on carbs and manifolds

Post by toolsntat »

There is an oily gunk working its way down the outside from the top of the carbs and getting baked on to the manifolds. Is it possible that oil is getting through the air filter housing via the engine breather pipe??

sounds like you need a rebuild of the top end you may have oil weeping past the piston rings causing pressure in the case and blowing oily fumes into your air filter and carb. Get a compression check

Thanks, it don`t sound good but will do comp test asap!!!
If that is the problem what will happen if the top end is not attended to straight away??
Have noticed that real bad fumes come out of breather pipe when filter housing is removed with engine ticking over!!
