Post by AngeloEvs »

need confirmation, to advance the ignition (1.9DG) turn the Dizzy anti-clockwise (when viewed from rear and looking down), searched wiki and thread but no help.

You really need to time it with a strobe.. easy to go too far either way..
Why do you think it needs advancing?

thanks Toomanytoys, taking your excellent advice and going to set it at around 8 degrees for lpg. I will adjust it with strobe and vac disconnected. The v in the pulley is set at 5 degrees and lines up with the centreline of the crankcase so I assume after adjustment the V should be about 3 degrees to the left of the centre line or do I have that a*** about face?

"U" groove is TDC, V is 5 BTDC (std single belt pulley) so a fraction further on from that.. measure the distance from "U" to "V" then mark that distance on the pulley.. go in between the 2 marks..

I will be running a couple of experiments in a couple of weeks, so should be able to report back...

Many thanks toomanytoys, much appreciated, can locate the V but don't seem to have the U (TDC) or am I blind as a bat?, will check again in the morning and drop a smidge of tippex on the pulley.

"U" is 1 side of the belt groove and "V" is other.. run your finger over to feel for it, wont be far from the V..

Thanks Toomanytoys, found the U (more like a dent no wonder I missed it!), tried additional 5 degree advance (10 BTDC) and noticeable improvement on LPG, particularly on gradients (or am I experiencing a placebo effect?) but have reset to to around 7/8 BTDC which is probably a better compromise. Let us know how you get on as it would be useful for all the lpg owners (post details in the wiki?).
