It is the satisfaction of doing work like that engine rebuild that really make VW ownership so rewarding. You will love your bus now, and smile everytime you look at the fruits of your labours. :D

lol thanks rob
shame were miles apart

do you think this is something a novice can/could do

ive gutted the inside of my van and rewired the a new charger, i would love to do this throughout the winter, im getting a bug i can use as a daily so the van is free
it would be my last big job and i would know my van inside out!
I also have an LPG conversion to add to the complications

definitely feeling inspired by fairwynds thread

The transformation is amazing.
The act is verging on the obessive.

You should be chuffed with you efforts, what do you do to satisfy your cleaning obsession now?

well done, nice work.
However I would recommend thoroughly coating your gearbox in underseal again like it was from factory as the road salt rots the cases like nobodys business so unless you plan on washing the underside all the time I'd coat it, especially the top.
Engines were facory coated too but age, heat and road spray gets to them too.

Twas cleaned with a good (bio degradeable) degreaser and water first, then elbow grease and a wooden stick/cloth and white spirit!
Oh, and finally, a white glove!!

Methinks it was a tad obsessive!

Take point about coating it with something tho.....

So, who's engine is next for the clean up at 'OCD' engine cleaners lol!

Top work.

If I were you I'd get some anti-corrosion wax on all that bare alloy before it corrodes to bu££ery.

(Update - oops just seen Aidens post..)
