Hello all,

I'm new to these T25 vans and got myself a 1989 1.9 watercooled Holdworth villa 3. I'm trying to get to understand all the things about her, and finding little problems.

As I'm new to these T25, I've got a few random questions that you maybe able to help me with.

1. The exhaust system on my van has been changed at to accommodate a notchback or hatchback type exhausts (thunderbird?? is the make, something like that). So I think (so a mate said) it's a cheaper way and can be quite common, instead of forking out for a expensive T25 exhaust units. It runs fine and sounds fine. Is this something that should not have been done and will it cause any future problems for me.

2. I've checked to see if the split charge is working and charging both batteries. It appears that the leisure battery is not charging. I'm trying to find the relay for this, and I think I have found it in a black box in the engine positioned in the top lefthand corner. Its a small grey unit? Am I correct in thinking this is the split charge relay. And should be changed.

Last one I promise...

3. I have a factory fitted 3 way fridge. The fridge worked the last time I tried it, but now the flame does not stay lit. It works when I'm holding down the button (it says I need to hold it for 15seconds) I've held it for 2 minutes to heat it up and it just goes out when I let go of the button, it's a blue flame, but not a large one. Have you any suggestions? Is it possible to clean it yourself or does it need a professional hand.

hi and welcome!

I think the black box in the engine bay, on the left hand front corner as you look with your knees by the numberplate, is not the split charge relay, it will be the relay for the carb heater .
The split charge relay is likely to be near to the main battery, or possible near to the leisure battery, and will be either a standard 20amp auto relay(4 pin) or possibly a green, or grey slightly larger than standard physical size relay, fused. Check the fuse.

ahh Ok, I checked all around the 2 batteries under the seats and could not see anything. I'll do some more searching.

follow the thick red wire from the leisure

fridge...
sounds like the thermo wire is not getting heated by the flame, so not keeping the safety valve open

or has broken

Thats the problem, the wires disappear into the metal. They must go under the van? I was looking at the instructions for the Zig unit. It might be behind that? :? I'm going to change the fuses first.

put on old clothes and get underneath the van.

follow wires to relay.

remove and test

Done a quick check although I'll have to do this again on saturday to be really sure.

The leads go to the starter motor, I just need to check around that area when I have more time.

I have a recurring problem with my spit charge relay as it keeps blowing fuses .... for info my relay is situated on the other side of the engine bay to where you have described.

Does anyone know the correct amperage for the fuse?
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.
