Hi Torque Starter - fix to starting problems

Post by Kenny »

Just thought I would share this info as I have recently read a few posts about starting problems.

I have suffered poor starting on both the T3s I have owned, the first being a standard DG engine and the current having been converted to F*rd V6 power.

The main reason for both being that the starter and the bush in the bell housing were worn out. Of course this problem was made worse on the V6 as a there is more to turn over!

My solution, although expensive (£200+), was to buy a hi torque starter which in this case also does away with the bush all together. Racemettle make an after market model for fitment to the Porsche 959 and with slight modification this was made to fit my van.

I hope this is help to some of you whether 'alternative engined' or not? It may be expensive but as far as I am aware the only other option along these lines is to import from Kennedy in the US which I am guessing isnt cheap either?!

Worth giving them a call to suss it out and giving them some measurements etc of your set up (my flywheel has been modified etc) they were pretty helpful when I had this done, which by the way was a couple of years ago now....

cheers!

p.s. I dont work for or have any affiliation with the company - I just know how annoying it is when your bus wont start!!!!!
