Horn

Just doing a pre mot check & the horn is not working, do they seize up overtime? any checks I can do to see if it is knackered, or should I just buy a new one??

check theres 12v getting to it.

Should be a permanent 12V feed at the horn itself. (It gets grounded on the other side when you push the button.)

A quick check would be to just short the ground side of the horn to the bodywork. (From memory, it's a brown wire. Worth checking with a meter though as it wouldn't be good to short the 12V feed to the bodywork!)

My experience is that it's usually the button. You can prise it out of the steering wheel, and undo the spade terminals. Shorting them together should make the horn beep.

The switch itself can be prised open, and the metal contacts polished up. I found they used to get a bit of green oxidation on them from time to time and if you scrape it off your horn will work for another month or so.
