Mine's a 1982 water cooled 1.6 diesel, manual. I've embarked on what is, for me at least, my first major job, removing the starter.
From inside the van looking towards the tailgate I can get at the two bolts securing the starter. I've freed both up but the one on the right is also securing what looks like a small piston or pump, the pipe of which seems to go into the engine at one end whilst the other goes underneath the body heading forward. Also, on the front of the starter there is a clip holding a hose, which I just worked out.
Thre's no clue in the JK manual as to what these are. Can anybody help please before I do something I maybe shouldn't.
Many thanks
What's attached to my Starter Motor?

connected to starter
Should be 2 wires, a heavy one, bolted to end of starter, and a lighter "trigger" wire, usuallu a push on connector. Disconnect the battery first.

Tks. I've removed the wires from the solenoid (and battery). The puzzle is the mechanical object which is attached to a flange which is fixed to the block by the right hand bolt. The starter motor on that side is therefore held into position between the flange and the block.
Go forth and enjoy!
