Audio 1.9TDI conversion

Post by nero253 »

Hi I am in a dilemma I have a G Reg T25 1.6TD jK engine which managed to tear the cambelt off last year, this engine was a reconditioned engine out of warranty when it tore the cambelt. Since then it has been stored at my local garage awaiting for him to have time to investigate/fix the troubled engine. However he has suggested to save time and money we start with a new engine and he has sourced a M reg Audi 1.9 TDI. I am after advice on how easy this conversion would be? I have already read that the gear box could be a problem, what else can be a potential problem for this kind of conversion?

All advise would be greatly appreciated.

your local garage is brave!Fitting a tdi is not a money saving option. To be done properly which includes gearbox work you need to spend WELL over £1000.

Has your local garage done tdi's into buses before?

If he'd suggested a 1.9td instead I'd trust his opinion more.....

Your gearbox alone (rebuild with longer gears) will cost you more than £1000.
To do this job proply will cost you in exess of £ 4000 depending on a few factors and can go as high as £6500.
If you are being quoted low the person doing the job dosent have a clue whot they are taking on or will be doing a half/bodge job.

sorry Russell youre right I forgot that my box rebuild at £650 didn't include the imported gears and input shaft/clutch etc....easily a grand as you say.

I'd head to a local specialist rather than a local garage....

Thanks for the advice

Cheers for this advice I was a little doubtful, unfortunately my area (South West Wales) is lacking in specialists for VW. Is my money better spent on having the existing engine stripped and rebuilt or have I got any better options?

Thanks once again.

Your best engine would be a 1.9TD,engine code" AAZ".
We do these conversions almost monthly for customers and have never had a disapointed one.
This conversion dosnt need any gearbox work to be done and is the most cost effective upgrade with off the shelf parts.
