Pull out sun awnings

Post by deke »

I'm thinking of a sun awning. Narrowed it down to an Omnistor or a Fiamma. Any comments? I have a front raising roof. Many thanks, Deke.

Just bought a Fiamma Caravanstore and it is excellent.
Only takes a couple of minutes to roll out or put it away.

I got it from Camperlands who give a 5% discount to 80-90 members :D

Caravanstore also has advantage of being lightweight - just slides into awning channel which is fixed to roof with self-tappers, as opposed to drilling and bolting through for a heavier rigid cassette-type.

caravan store is also half the price of the other 2.

What size is best for the t25?

i was looking for a fiamma f45 ....but think I may go for the caravanstore instead. Does the same job I think ?

Length depends on the kind of roof you have and where you will fix it.
I have a high top, so have the entire length of the van to play with (I have a 2.3m as it was available on eBay, but a 2.6 would just fit).
Not sure how / what height you would fit it to a poptop.

It certainly is easy to use - does the same job as an F45 or Omni 2000.

I got the 2.8m which if fitted using a 3m piece of awnimg rail.

That runs from the centerline of my front wheel to the back edge of my back wheel to give you an idea of size

Just fitted a 2.55m Caravanstore to my van using a length of awning rail.

Great bit of kit, so easy to use. Keeps the sun and even light rain off your slider area. Worth every penny.

Got mine off ebay for £75 brand new 8). It came from Brownhills the motorhome dealer at Newark. I've just had a look on ebay for some more but can't see any listed from them

Might be worth giving 'em a bell to see if they have any more.

The idea was to have instant shade and similar pack up time. I thought the caravanstore might take longer and how does it travel?. We have no room inside. As ex tenters we have tended to shy away from anything that takes time particularly as we do a lot of one nighters. Thanks for all your comments-keep'em coming. By the way the Cak Tanks offer is for collection only. Deke.

It took me 90 seconds to put mine away.
Yes I did time myself

You can't tell you got it on when travelling.

Like windy says, pack up time is seconds and you don't know it's there when travelling.
Ideal for one nighters, plus if you can't be @rsed to put it up at times then you don't have to, it ain't gonna be in the way.

A word of caution!

Post by Turbokomet »

We bought a caravanstore awning last year and really rate it.

A freak gust of wind blew the whole lot over the roof of the van when camping in Dorset last week.

Both the awnings legs snapped at the top.

Luckily no damage to the van. :)

A quick internet search when back at home revealed these guys

http://www.frontier-leisure.co.uk

Who posted me a couple of replacement leg tops pronto. Awning now fixed.

Moral? guy rope it down if you want to keep it intact and don't leave it up if you suspect big winds! ( Not the lager & curry kind  )

Figure of 8

Don't think so. The caravanstore has two rafters that tension the awning and they would put too much pressure on a figure of 8 rail, forcing the awning away from the van.

Just about to order the caravanstore but then I noticed the Fiamma F35 which is a similar weight to the caravan store but packs into a cassette like the F45. However it may not have rafters and may need tensioning ropes. Any comments? Deke.
