Leisure Gas tank - as fitted by steve - how long will it las

Post by mikey9 »

A couple of peeps have asked about how much "leisure"you can get from a 10KG leisure gas tank (I am assuming this holds 80% capacity in liquid form).

This has been a difficult one to calculate as:
1. The guage is innacessible due to the way the tank has to be fitted
2. The guages appear wildly innacurrate
3. Whenever i fill up with vehicle gas - this fills the leisure gas tank.....

So- having the need to empty the tank completely (long story) I have been running the following continuously:

2 burner hob - both on full
Propex heating - on hot
Electrolux Fridge - on gas

I have managed 11 hours continuous use - generally heating the atmosphere on the warmest day so far. The hobs were still going strong - but the guage reads empty.

So - if you go camping with someone who insists on sitting in an oven - but wants continuous hot tea with cold milk - you can go away for 11 hours :D

Or more sensibly - you get a hellovalotof leisure for £5 (filling cost of 10 litres)

Hope this is useful to someone.

Update

Tis still going! - another 3 hours with everything on so in total 14 hours - unfortunately it is sooooo hot - even with the door open and all the vents - the heating is cutting out (as I guess the thermostat is being exceeded).

I tried this last year and after 12 hours gave up and disconnected the regulator... still took 45 minutes on full blast... pity the environment ! Theres my carbon footprint gone for the year ! I reckon one of those full leisure tanks (I have the same one) will last 48 hours with everything on full... although I'm guesstimating... I reckon permanent fridge and occasional cooker (ie normal use) about 2 weeks ?

The results are in - finally.

Summary
It took about 16 hours in total to empty the 10KG tank with the following on for (nearly) all that time:

2 burner hob - both rings on full
Propex heating - on hot
Electrolux Fridge - on gas

I reckon that would be good for over two weeks camping with use of propex in evening/overnight on thermostat. (obviously depending how warm your missus wants the van  ).

my 20kg tank off steve into which I put 14.93 litres has so far done 17 days of heater/hot water/cooker/fridge and still says it has 30% left

not bad for an £8.50 fill up :D

The guage is innacessible due to the way the tank has to be fitted
Not wanting to ruff any feathers but whats the point of a gauge if you can't see it?
I thought these were made to fit.
