2.1 petrol engine wont rev!

Post by pigmidget »

Hi Everyone
Got a T3 with 2.1 injection petrol engine. It has an annoying intermittant fault. Sometimes it will start and run fine, othertimes it will start and tick over, sounding almost as if it is too rich, and then die immeadiatly the throttle is depressed. In either situation it always starts instantly. Yesterday it did this again, I left it 15mins, and then tried it again, it ran fine. Went to start it this morning and the same thing happened - just a lumpy tickover.

We have fuel, spark, compression, etc and when it runs it runs fine.Any ideas please?? Its doing my head in!

No back fires. Can airflow sensor be cleaned? Where is it?

does it do it when its hot too?
does it black smoke when it runs rough?
could be the temp 2 sensor or just a plain old earth corrosion problem or in one of the many connections... you could go round the engine and unplug things and plug them back in look out for loose/damaged wires etc..

Try the tick over switch on the manifold butterfly. It should go click as soon as it starts to move, it tells the computer that the engine is not idling. If it does not work, then the brain will try to make your engine tick over, even when you are on throttle.

The switch is a simple on off, just unplug, and connect a meter, and open and close the throttle, should make/break the circuit.
