Mmm.. once you start getting in there it could be bad.. but I dont see it being worse than my rotten B pillar problem..
You dont need a full inner and outer sill, repaier plates could be easily made.. even cut some bits from a scrap van...
If you havent a clue how to do it yourself,m then dont start doing it yourself...

Dosnt look all bad to me.
If you want to keep then van then I would suggest getting the work done now by someone who knows how to do it, it will save you hasel and money in the long run. Leaving it or covering up the rust with seam-sealer will get it through the MOT this year but will not sort the problem. When I got my van some one had spent a lot of time filling holes on the b pillar instead of fixing it the results of this can be seen below. It was a good 4 - 5 hours work to get it repaired.
Just my thoughts on the matter.
the following are a MOT failure:

And after the repair

And the rear swig arm, note holes!!!!

Its big, Its Blue, Its mine!
hi
TAKE IT TO A PROPER MOT STATION.
FRONT JACKING POINTS ARE NOT A FAILURE ON THE MOT!
NOR ARE MOST OF THE SILLS !
ONLY POINT OF FAILURE IS 12INCHES OF THE REAR SWING ARM M,OUNTING(any direction)
all the other stuff is advise
also front steps/archces are not a failure except within 12 inches of the seat belt mount.
common failure points, but either by a stupid tester or a garage touting for work.
i have bought/sold vans with no sills/front jacking points but with a fresh mot and i used to be a tester and i am still in contact with the trade!

I have taken it to a friend of a friend to look at it for me, he had a quick look and said that it should not have failed either.
He is going to look at the problems anyway and will give me a price on replacing the rusty bits with repair panels so that I can get the van resprayed and looking good again.
I agree I think the Garage is just looking for work, which is really annoying they must be doing this to other people as well and some will just pay them a lot money for work that is not needed.

mot failure
Hello, i know it's a bit far but i know a great vw specialist in Eaton Bray just west of Luton Duntable, (yard full of old t25s) who recently said they charge £200 a day welding. They're called WA tele 01525 222223. Good luck, cheers Mike.

1.6td 1988 lhd Thanks for reading!
I have had the van retested at a different Test station and they failed it on different things.
Worn Bushes
No Fog light
Missing end bumper caps (Sharp metal)
minor welding
I have left it at garage as they are going to do all repairs to get it through MOT, they have told me it will be ready Friday with MOT for around £180.
I am so happy that Gylbert will be back on the road, but also annoyed with first garage so will not be going there again.
