Urgent brake problem

Hi all

my brakes went all spongy and sounded like they were pumping air on the way into work this morning. If I pump them until they go hard they stop working altogether. If I don't, they go all the way down and give me a bit of braking right at the bottom.

So my vans in the car park & I have to drive it home at 5.30. Bearing in mind I work in an office and am wearing a suit so cant get stripping it down much, is there any short-term solution that will get me home safely?

I haven't had a chance to look at the fluid resevoir yet to see if I've somehow lost my brake fluid. If this is the case though, I'm thinking, go get some more, put it in, bleed it through as best I can without messing the carpark up too much and hope for the best. I'm in the RAC, will they come out for this sort of thing?

Any expert advice would be much appreciated.

Ring the RAC! That why we pay them..

Dead brakes arn't worth risking.

I agree with The_blue - ring the RAC, don't risk driving with the brakes like that.

Have rung the RAC and the noble knights of the road are on their way. I hate asking for help really. Doing it yourself is the whole point of buying an old dub, but hey ho as you pointed out, thats what we pay for.

Would've hated to have heard that anything bad had happened to you or your van on the way home.

RAC have taken it home for me. It's a rear cylinder.

Si Baxter if you read this, I want to replace the entire front & back brakes, can you supply all the discs, drums, pads, cylinders, calipers etc etc that I'll need to replace the whole lot?
