using up oil too quickly

Post by suedehead »

Got a 1.6td, it is running very well at the moment, getting across the country every weekend and even having to watch my speed sometimes.

However the oil level does seem to drop a little quicker than i'd like and I have noticed that oil seems to be getting spat out of the exhaust and flicks up onto the tailgate.

Any tips on what I should do. Imagine you are speaking to an idiot who knows nothing about engines. :D

thanks, Martin

Martin,,,,,,,,,,Sooty deposits on the tailgate are a well know foible when owning and driving a T25 at speed......

Have you tried driving the van wearing slippers ie (slowing down a bit) ?

Could be the start of something in need of a dammed good service (start with an air filter change) as it is one thing that tends to get forgotten about, plus if it is restricting the engine it will be like running with the choke on.

Regards,

Fritz,,,,,, :D

Martin,
2 Items that might be the cause of your spotted dick rear end
(1) Oil seals are gone in the Turbo.
(2) Check your return oilfeed to the sump, if oil is backing up in the return pipe its only way out is to accumulate in turbo exhaust flange and then gets blown out through front pipe and then into the backbox
hope this is of help as this what was happening to mine when i was trying to setup a 1.6 SB turbo.

Fritz, thnks for the advice, I do drive in a pretty chilled out way though, never in too much of a rush. :D
