Couldnt do much today--rain/windy all of the time.

Tomorrow plan to remove turbo to inlet manifold pipe. See how much oil is in it and then start her up.

If I've got a kind of diesel runaway then the engine must be getting feed oil from somewhere. With the turbo disconected and the rocker cover breather disconected then am I correct in thinking that diesel runaway cannot occur ??? and the engine cannot be consuming its own oil ??

Will try this to see if the engine revs behave.

running it on std diesel.

Yes it is the LDA I was refering to earlier, still concearned over the pushrod catching on the side though.
cheers

If you think that the LDA is sticking, just remove and plug the pipe.
start it up and see if it is any different.

LDA senses boost, the more boost you have the more fuel the engine gets, if it is sticking, it could do what you describe, but it's something I have never seen, hence me saying it was unlikely.
Pull the pipe from it and start it up, if it's fixed you know it's the LDA, if it still does it, it isn't.
One begs the question, how on earth did it get bent in the first place?

Well thanks for all of the advice and ideas.

I have now removed the pipe from the turbo outlet to the inlet manifold. It was rather oily inside.

Started her up and ticked over rather well. Reved it up using throttle lever on pump, release it, lever snapped back and revs continued and even increased. Had to switch off to stop it.

However this left a nice black oily stipe in the engine bay from the turbo and even chucked some out far enough to mark the inside panels of the van !!
Also oil started driping out of a crack in the exhaust pipe !!

Oil started dripping out of the turbo outlet and onto the floor.

From this I assume that the KKK turbo seals are knackered ???

Also if I block the rocker cover breather hole oil begins to pour out of the dipstick within seconds. High crankcase pressure/worn rings perhaps ??

Still got no idea about the reving problem.

Think its time to decide that an engine replacement is the way to go.

Any body got a good 1.9 AAZ or 1.9 1Y ???
Treve the one at Harrys has gone.

Again thanks for all the ideas and advice
cheers

I have lived with a similar but not so severe revving problem with my AAZ for about 18 months, revs didn't go up but held steady when taking foot off gas pedal from high revs). I got an uprated LDA pin from Brickwerks (cheers Simon, your web shop is great) popped it in, and not only have a got a power increase out of my not-long-before-it-needs-a-rebuild lump (blowing past rings, oil oozing out all over the show), but the over revving has gone.

However, I did find about two tablespoons worth of engine oil in the lda housing, which must have come out of the turbo oil seals, so I removed this. I wonder if this oil can drain into the fuel pump and cause a problem, or whether it was just sticky LDA pin. I've never had a pump apart but would guess any engine oil going through would be throttled the same way as the diesel going through.
