gally,

A 2.1DJ will run on 95 unleaded if the ignition is (or has been) retarded 5 degrees from the standard setting (IIRC).

Mine runs beautifully on 95 as the timing had been reset by the previous owner.

Just to confirm,

Mr. Haynes says.....

2.1 DJ for 98 octane fuel... 10 degrees BTDC (Plus or minus 1 degree) at 800 RPM vacuum disconnected.

2.1 DJ for 95 octane fuel... 5 degrees BTDC (minus 1 degree) at 800 RPM vacuum disconnected.

RPM tolerance is plus or minus 50 RPM

These engines were designed to run on unleaded, so no need for any addatives..

As said.. if it is a "DJ" code engine, then you must run on 97/98/99UL if timed at 10 deg BTDC, if it has been set to 5 deg BTDC then you can use 95UL..
