pootle bus work starting to take shape

Post by wibble »

Having bought "Pootle" last September she's been off the road for repairs & "upgrades". I discovered loadsa rot behind windscreen corners which has also rotted away drivers cab step.
After 4 months of week end work its all starting to come together.

This is before I began the work. the plastic bag was my effort to stop the rain leaking into the van

New metal welded in & ready for painting

I removed the dash in readiness to remove the windscreen. Whilest it was off I decided to re-cover it with black textured vinyl. Some it had rusted away by the windowscreen corners. Took a while but I got there in the end. I also covered the center heater cover in vinyl too. I finished off the edges with vinyl wine red piping.

After, dash now vinyl covered with red piping. Added extra swithes for the foot well blue LED lighting and LED washer jets.

luckily for me one of mates does a "chips away" franchise. He brouhg this van over ans resprayed Pootles upper front valance. Here she is geting her primer on

And then using IR lamps to dry the primer ready for the top coats

Getting her new paint

I replaced the old instrument cluster with a later model, thus gaining a tacho. I re-worked the dials ias the speedo was in KPH. I took a hi-res scan of my old MPH one and re-worked a new dial face for both tacho & speedo. Also re-painted dial hands to stand out more. Will blue LED lighting later.

New cab light to add to the feeble door pillar one and reversing camera monitor

Not looking quite such a mess inside now. Still got loads to do so will update as time permits.
