Front brake calipers

Post by meggles »

I need a new/used front brake caliper. It is the type which has the "R" shaped split pin things holding the pins in. I think it is Girling but not sure. Anyone know if I am correct. Also, are the discs interchangeable? I have tried searching but no luck. if anyone can supply a link to a topic I would be very appreciative, thanks.

Try this, as listed on GSF web site,,

65621 BRAKE CALIPER-FRONT LH T25 >6/86 86.50
65622 BRAKE CALIPER-FRONT RH T25 >6/86 86.50
65625 BRAKE CALIPER-FR LH GLING T25 6/86 > 11/90 58.50
65626 BRAKE CALIPER-FR RH GLING T25 6/86 > 11/90 58.50

Nearest GSF store in your area will be Newcastle or Leeds, ring them first to check you get the right ones....

Although any decent local independant motor factors will be able to get you these parts on a next day service. I need to same items for mine and saved almost £40 using an independant supplier.

Regards

Fritz,,,,,,,,,PS, it advisable to replace these units in pairs.
One day you will find me,,

VW used two suppliers for calipers ATE and Girling . Girling have a large G cast on the end of the caliper ATE have ATE cast on them.
Not sure what you mean by are discs interchangable. They are not handed but once fitted they should only be refitted in the same direction of rotation. Later discs are a different diameter and thickness and not interchangable.

Thanks for replies.
The caliper has, what looks like, the VW logo on it. No large G or ATE.
Also what I meant by interchangeable was: Is their a difference in hub bearing diameter etc. I am looking to change the discs on my X reg for a couple of nearly new discs from a Y reg. (both 2litre air cooled).
Thanks

Girling calipers had the R clips originally, ATE used a srung sleeve but depends what came with replacement pads.
Aircooled discs are interchangable but should be fitted in the same direction of rotation as there is a risk of the discs cracking.
