Exhaust system swap

Post by sln123 »

I recently bought a full replacement exhaust system for my 1990 2.1L petrol Westy (German import) as the one fitted is on its way out and the MOT is looming. It's the 7 piece kit from Just Kampers (listed to fit Aug 85-Nov 00 2,100cc water cooled). It's the only one listed to fit my engine so I bought it.

Having had a chat with a couple of the club 80-90 guys at the Bosworth camp meet it was pointed out that my but has a cat fitted to it (possibly two). I have checked the engine no. which shows as an "ss" number which is a new one to me. There was some debate as to whether my new system would fit and if any adjustment to the fuel injection system would be needed. I called JK who said that it would fit with no adjustment to the fuel injection but if my bus had a lamder senser (? spelling) this would need to be fitted into the new exhaust.

I would appreciate some advice on :-
1. Will this system simply bolt on ?
2. Does my bus have a lamder senser ?
3. Will the fuel injection need adjusting ?
4. Will the need system meet UK MOT emissions ?

Many thanks, Steve

If it is "SS" (swiss market emissions engine with "Digifant" injection) and has a lambda then you need to get the lambda fitted to the link pipe in the similar position.. you can get a weld on boss for this..

If the vehicle is pre Jan 1st 93 (which it ought to be) then you can dispense with the cat..
no adjustment will be needed to the Fi... As long as the lambda is refitted and there are NO air leaks.. carefull assembly is needed..

Thanks for the response toomanytoys. I am an ex Aircooled man and am still coming the terms with the many technical advances made in the 25 years between my old split and my new T25.

Do you have any idea where I can get one of the weld on bosses that you refer to in your post as anything to make the job easier is a help.

Cheers, Steve

Normally its an M18x1.5 pitch thread so you can use a stainless nut.. (would need to check that thread though)
A good exhaust place may have one, or one of the LPG kit/installer companies..

Also have a look on EBAY..
