I have a weeping leak from the water jacket gasket.... It on the top, above cylinder number ??? (front, near side). The gasket will need replacing at some point but hoping to treat this as part of my winter project. The big question is, I am very temped to smear some silicone on lip of the gasket to stop it leaking.
Has someone done this as a temporary measure or am I completely wasting my time trying!!! Cheers.

Wont help but it it makes you feel better try it...
Keep an eye on it and dont be tempted to use rad weld etc..
Its the water jaket gasket not a head gasket in the traditional sense.. can open a can of worms if you try and do the head yourself, you need to be fully aware of what might and can go wrong before atempting to take it off.. and a lot of the answer is based on the age of the engine...
