diff lock controll

diff lock controll

i noticed yesterday that the diff lock controll panel has 4 bulbs behind it.

1 rear diff lock light

2 front diff lock light

3 illumination of the switches and

4 light to indicate what? centre diff lock / decoupler?.

anyone know what that centre light is meant to indicate. beats me.

Just in case like... VW decided they woud be fitted with them at some point down the road, or had decided and decision was changed :?

Cheaper to leave it in the moulding/assembly than remove it/remake the moulds.. marginal call considering how many they made... perhaps it was an oversight... and some keen chappy said "bugger it, we'll offer it as an option if it cant be fitted as standard, so leave the bits in there.."

thanks guys, did vw ever fit a decoupler i remember vaguely reading something about it somewhere but cant remember what was said.

AFAIK (Boltze will surely correct me if I'm wrong) the very first Syncros actually had no VC but a decoupler.

So when the decision was made to abandon that and go with the VC instead the switchgear housing was already cast and done with and they just stuck with it.

Also they used the third light for some of those PTO's that were fitted on the Scandinavian models
