Shot in the dark here........
I have just dimantled and resprayed my mirror brackets/arms.
Does anyone know if there any torque wrench settings for the two main nuts?

Not sure exactly which nuts you mean but the ones right up the top have plastic washers/bushes so you won't want to tighten them very much. Should be Nilocks so won't come loose. All other bolts would need tightening enough for them to stay put and the bottem pivot needs to be tight enough to compress the spring so it sits in the outward setting nicely. Again I think they are nilocks so will stay set.

Yes the tops are nylocks but the bottom sprung one is steel on mine.
As you said there are a couple of small nylon bushes in there which don't seem to be listed in either Vag.com or Ecta, so I dont want to crush them.
Also I dont want to have to remove them again after fitting because the swing in/out is too tight or loose.
