hydraulic tappits

Post by dugwiththevwbug »

i have been trying to get started a 1.9dg engine that has been laid up for about four years. All electrics test good timing is fine, carb is clean jets clear and the fuel is new it just will not start it tries but thats all. Could it be that the tappits are not pressured enough i have turned over the engine until the batteries flat several times the oil light goes out very quickly (new oil by the way).
any ideas?

Is it sparking? is the fuel actually getting in?
Are the leads on the right way?
they will start and run even with little oil in the tappets.. bloomin noisey though...

Check and double check everything else before going intothe tappets as its not cheap to do...

if you got fuel and spark try to towstart it. get it up to 20mph or so lob it in third and feed the clutch in!!

that should get it going!!!
