Wanted- Spare wheel carrier

I have considered front mounting (I actually have a SA bull bar ready for modifying) but I just don't like the look of it and a lot of people are dead-against bull bars these days on safety grounds (though I think being hit by a 1.5 ton van is probably pretty bad with or without bull bar!)

Can modify/adapt the front with stiffeners behind to mount without a heavy bullbar, seen it done.. BlueTrukkie, south coast, hants

So are Syncro underslung carryers actully pritty stocky then? I'd always asumed they'd be pritty flimsy compaired to the bashplate. Even if they were strong though I can't see myself fitting one as it probubly wouldn't like Pindale where I go relatively often and scrape the nose. I think I can cope with it in the boot - atlest it won't get nicked.

Yep - my Caravelle had the drop down carrier and so does the Westy - plan to adapt it for storage of somekind. Seems rude to waste the space.

Yup, I know someone who has oil coolers and water coolers and all sorts crammed up there...

Then there's the need for water storage well out of the way...

Yes I was looking into the void the other day wondering what could fit in it (though presumably some of it is an exhaust path from the rad that never gets hot enough to use its massive fan).

Main issues I thought about though is putting something bulky there will doubtless be heavy and bring the nose down more. Its also likely to get wet/muddy under there so whatever goes there needs to be able to survive hersh inviroments (hence the airhorns will go somewhere else I think

).

Any weight unless gold bars there will have less effect than an large off-road wheel and tyre hanging further fwd off the front, so ne probleme IMHO

The heat would def restrict what 'might' be put there, especially on a diesel, mine's got sound and heat insulation all along that (wide diesel) tunnel and under the g/c, being a diesel from new... just pop out the gearlever seals and gaiter and you'll be cooked in minutes flat, summer and winter!
