Advice please.....

Post by monkey-chops »

Two different people have looked at my van and tell me that the side panels look as if rusting from inside out from water getting in side gutters. Both tell me i'd be better off getting rid of van and buying another. Im gutted and want to know if its repairable or a lost cause......by the way got max £1000 to spend on it. Cheers

If two people have said aint worth it then look for summit better ? When you say you have a grand to spend is that including the van ??? How good at body work are you?? loads of questions but if you aint a guru on body work its a very expensive lesson to learn!

seam rot is a problem for most of these vans and sorting it out from the outside is normally a temp` fix. you can cut the seam out compleatly but its big work especially if the inside is fully fitted.

The grand is for fixing up but dont want to throw good money after bad, i aint no guru! Might be better off using extra money to put toward better van eh?

By the way, was my first van purchase, lesson learned, will have better idea what probs to look out for next time.

Both people who looked at it sucked their teeth a lot, would be big job sorting from inside as its fitted out, quite well I may say! Still as im a newbie i think this ones out of my league and trying again might be preferable.

That happens a lot when you ask most people to look at these old vans, in my experience. If they weren't people that know and love vw's then I wouldn't rush into anything until you've spoken to someone who does. As mentioned above, post some photos on here then people will be able to give you a better idea perhaps. Any local colleges near you that do bodywork courses?

Hi
Im in Shropshire, don't know anyone locally who deals with vw vans as a passion as im quite new to this game. if i can avoid having to sell it on, id be very happy so if anyone knows someone fairly local info would be brilliant.

have you got any photos of your van? I am not bodywork professional but it is always nice to compare mine with what people call rusty heaps, so I know when mine needs some proper care and attention. I think I might have put my finger through the wheel arch the other day.
