Just dropping the engine out of my 1980 t25 air cool. Disconnected anything I can see thats connected in the engine bay and undone the 4 engine/gearbox bolts and disconnected the bellow things. So tomorrow night I'll get my big jack under it and if I have this right i just undo the cross/support bar and then wiggle the engine out? Does that sound right or am I missing anything?
Anything I should be looking to do whilst changing the stuff over to the new (s/hand) bare engine? is it easier to check/change exhaust and heat exchangers stuff whilst its out?
either take your gear shift linkage off the gearbox at the knuckle, or be very carefull how far you let the gearbox drop to get the engine off, of you risk bending the linkage, and that will mean hours of fun re setting it up........ mark it before you take it off so you put it back as it was......
oh, and mind the throttle return spring bracket as you drop the engine, they have a habbit of getting wedged in the lower rear sill......
you need to disconnct the gear linkage off the box and when lowering support the box too.. it wont stay in there.. you will need to have the vehicle up on ramps or axle stands else it wont clear under the rear...
Thanks very much for that. I (stupidly) hadn't considered the gearbox linkage. I gather the gearbox will just pivot down as I lower the engine and I will presumably need to support it as well?
Ok, its out and on the dek! I just have to swap tinware etc and I may as well clean up the engine bay I think. Anyway, thanks for the advice chaps. its apprciated.
