gear stick repair kit

Post by ermie571 »

Came across this bit of kit when perusing brickyard shop. Wondered if it will help with stiff gear selection.

I have a 2.1 on a four speed. She had a jet wash the other day, and the gear selection was amazing. Finger and thumb, she went in and out of all gears smoothly with no effort - nice firm selection - no sloppiness.

We can get the same effect with a bit of lubricant too....so is it something that needs adjustment, or do I need to replace something (oh - the gear stick springs to neutral)

thanks in advance (she was a little stiff in the heat today!)

Evening Em!
I have found the bush above the petrol tank can be a pain for resistance when selecting gears. You can see it when the spare wheel is removed... Just crawl or slide up on the spare wheel supporting tinwork when its lowered and spray wd40 (with the straw!) on the area where the gear linkage disappeares through to the back and try the gears then.
Should be improved hopefully! If it is then you could always try to get some chainlube on it as this doesn't attract as much dust and dirt etc.
Mark.
