Going to maybe VR6

Im gonna basically VR6 me Panel van, now Im gonna make sure Ive the loom and ECU etc but do I need a Diesel box to use the appropriate adaptor plate? Would a TD five speed be ok?
Any help and advise mucho`s appreciated.
